When a business is owed a debt, there main two options are either to write it off or forward it to collections. While some feel that collecting may be too expensive an option, this is not entirely so. Collection agency cost is based upon many different factors. One of the first determinants is the company. The actual costs of recovery of the debt will vary from one agency to the next. However, another important factor is how the particular collector charges. In some cases, the fee for services is actually paid by the original debtor by being added as a charge to the bill in which the company is collecting. It depends on whether the agency is collecting for the company or if the debt has been sold to them. Collecting costs vastly differ and should not be the sole determining factor on whether or not an unpaid bill is pursued.
